Aether to Outfit TRL with MobileMax

Aether Systems Inc. said Monday that it has reached an agreement with truckload carrier TRL Inc. to outfit that company’s fleet of 600 trucks with its MobileMax wireless tracking and messaging system.

TRL, based in Pittston, Pa., specializes in dry and temperature-controlled transportation services, Aether said.

MobileMax features a multi-modal system that Aether said switches automatically between land-based and satellite communications without outside intervention. The system handles dispatch, data messages and Global Positioning System information, Aether said. Transport Topics

McLeod Software Head Sees Fleets Reinvesting in Technology

The head of McLeod Software said his fleet management programming company expects to win new business this year from U.S. motor carriers starting to upgrade pre-millennium software purchases and from first-time sales to European carriers.

President Tom McLeod told Transport Topics in an interview that some of his mainly truckload customers have also begun to show interest in making information technology investments again, after a tough period of recession and carrier consolidations.

McLeod said his Birmingham, Ala.-based company sells its fleet operations software to about 10% of the 4,000 carriers in his target market. The firm has about 100 employees and in the past two or three years has had revenues of $10 million-$12 million, he said.

McLeod said that about half his regular customers are starting to discuss technology upgrades. Roger Gilroy
