SmarTire’s First-Quarter Loss Narrows

British Columbia-based SmarTire Systems said Friday that it took a fiscal first-quarter loss of C$5.3 million or 2 cents a share, down from a C$17.8 million or 6 cents per-share loss a year ago.

Revenue for the quarter ended Oct. 31 rose 44% to C$851.8 million from a year earlier, the company said.



“Our revenues will increase in the second half of our fiscal year,” said SmarTire Chief Executive Officer Dave Warkentin. “Major players in the commercial vehicle industry have advised us that they plan to order products” in 2007.

DHL Enhances Route-Optimization System

DHL said Wednesday it enhanced its “Route Optimization Initiative,” a component of a program announced earlier this year to enhance courier pick up and delivery efficiency

The initiative uses software to pull pickup and delivery data from courier data-terminal scanners.

That information is them uploaded for analysis and route mapping, enabling DHL to increase efficiency and effectively balance its workload capacity across its entire U.S. fleet, it said.

Lockheed Martin Forms Supply Chain Service Group

Lockheed Martin has re-established its Savi Technology subsidiary as the Savi Group in order to provide integrated information services for global supply chains.

Lockheed, Bethesda, Md., acquired Savi Technology of Sunnydale, Calif., in June. The Savi Group is led by Vic Verma, who was chief executive officer of Savi Technology.

Verman said Savi uses its radio frequency identification (RFID) data collection capabilities to provide in-transit visibility, cargo security and asset management services for the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Defense and other government agencies, port and terminal operators, and commercial customers.
