Teamsters Ratify Carhaul Contract

Members of the Teamsters union voted by a 4-1 margin to ratify a four-year contract with unionized carhaulers.

The July 7 announcement concerning ratification of the National Master Automobile Transporters Agreement came a month after negotiators for the union and the National Automobile Transporters Labor Division agreed to the pact (6-7, p. 1).

The announcement came in the middle of a strike by the Teamsters against several terminals operated by Overnite Transportation. (See article, page 1.)

Union members voted 7,244 to 1,825 to approve the agreement, according to unofficial results released by the Teamsters.

Last week’s announcement ends a negotiation process that began in February.

The agreement is the first reached by the Teamsters since President James P. Hoffa took office about three months ago.
