Teamsters’ Local Leaders Endorse UPS Agreement
Leaders of Teamsters union locals that represent UPS Inc. workers across the United States voted unanimously Tuesday to endorse the tentative five-year agreement recently reached between UPS and the Teamsters.
The move paves the way for ballots to be prepared and sent to rank-and-file union members, the Teamsters said in a statement on its website.
If ratified, the five-year contracts between the Teamsters and UPS’ package and less-than-truckload freight units would take effect Aug. 1.
“Our members made clear they wanted us to protect their health care benefits and address harassment while increasing wages and retirement contributions,” said Ken Hall, the Teamsters general secretary-treasurer, who co-chairs the union’s national negotiating committee.
“This is a strong tentative agreement that achieves all those things and more,” he said in a statement.
Ballot packages will be mailed to union members at the end of May for ratification and will start being counted on or about June 20, the union said.
UPS is ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
