A man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a trailer with $43,000 of Frito-Lay snacks inside.

Detectives found the trailer, which originally was from Georgia and destined for Homestead, Florida, abandoned near NW 60th Street and NW 35th Avenue in Miami-Dade around 11 a.m. July 19.

Officers saw a man hook up a stolen FedEx tractor to the stolen Frito-Lay trailer and head to a warehouse to unload. At the warehouse, located at 6900 NW 35th Ave., the driver ran when he saw police coming.

Diego Armenteros, 26, was charged with the theft of the tractor, trailer and product (total value: $139,000) by the South Florida Cargo Theft Task Force. The task force has detectives from the FBI, and Miami-Dade, Doral and Miami Gardens police departments.

Trailer theft is common in South Florida.

In November, two trailers with a thousand Christmas trees were stolen from outside a Kendall Costco. One year earlier, thieves nabbed a 48-foot, multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art television production truck from the parking lot of a Miami Lakes hotel. It was supposed to be the control room for DirecTV and CBS sports broadcaster Rich Eisen the next day.

The $43,000 Frito-Lay haul is peanuts compared with one South Florida man’s alleged haul: $2 million of Mucinex. Officials say the stolen goods were resold at a Miami-Dade store.
