TravelCenters of America and Shell plan to open the first five LNG fueling centers in the United States in the first half of 2014, Thomas O’Brien, CEO of TA, said Nov. 4.

As part of an agreement made in April, the companies plan to build LNG fueling centers in Pennsylvania, Texas and California, O’Brien said during an investor’s conference call. The number of stations in each state will depend on customer demand.

These sites are expected to be the first of a nationwide LNG fueling center network for heavy-duty road transport customers.

As of last spring, the companies’ plan was to construct at least two LNG fueling lanes and a storage facility at up to 100 existing TA and Petro Stopping Centers’ full-service stations along the U.S. interstate highway system.
