Swift Reports Increase in Quarterly Earnings

ruckload carrier Swift Transportation Co. Wednesday reported its third-quarter net income rose to $33.5 million or 44 cents a share, up from $12.6 million or 17 cents a year earlier.

Revenue for the quarter increased to 0.3% to $815.0 million compared with $812.9 million for the third quarter of quarter of 2005. Excluding fuel surcharges revenue decreased 3.3% for the quarter to $681.9 million, compared with $704.9 million in 2005.

Third carrier’s quarter results include a $7.8 million pre-tax charge for the deterioration in market value of translucent trailers previously designated as assets held for sale
