Supervalu's Earnings, Revenue Drop

ood retailer and wholesaler Supervalu Inc. reported Tuesday it earned $92.9 million or 65 cents a share for its 2005 fourth quarter ended Feb. 26, down from $95.6 million or 67 cents a share a year earlier.

The company said its earnings exceeded its guidance of 61 to 66 cents a share. Sales dropped to $4.6 billion from $5 billion a year earlier.

Supervalu is No. 21 on the Transport Topics Private 100 listing of the largest private fleets in North America.



For the full fiscal year the company earned $385.8 million or $2.71 a share, up from $280.1 million or $2.01 the previous year.

In January, Supervalu said it had agreed to buy Total Logistics Inc. for $233 million in cash and the assumption of debt.
