Stolen Trailer Found Intact; Not Terrorist-Related

A trailer carrying fertilizer and pesticides that touched off a nationwide hunt when it was reported stolen last week, has been recovered, undamaged in Hillside, N.J., ABC News reported.

The cab of the truck was recovered Thursday, news services said. The discovery of the trailer Saturday put an end to the hunt for the vehicle.

The owner of Rockland Corp., the company that operated the truck, said that none of the contents of the trailer appeared to have been touched. Authorities said they had no reason to believe that the theft was terrorist related, according to ABC.

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, the trailer had been loaded with landscaping products, primarily limestone, as well as lawn fertilizer and liquid pesticide.

The missing truck, which was stolen either Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning from Rockland Corp. in Parsippany, N.J., had caused concern because some fertilizers can be used to make explosives.

Since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks a watchful eye has been placed on the trucking industry. An FBI probe has uncovered evidence that nearly two dozen individuals fraudulently obtained commercial drivers licenses, fueling fears of a terrorist attack using heavy trucks.
