urable goods orders posted their biggest increase in more than six years, rising 7.8% in September, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.
The increase, the largest since a 16% gain in June 2000, follows a revised 0.1% drop In August, Commerce said.
The durables rise was driven largely by demand for commercial aircraft and business equipment, Commerce reported.
xcluding transportation equipment, orders rose 0.1% after a 1.5% drop in August.
Economists had predicted durable orders to rise 2%, Bloomberg reported.
Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
