Customs and Border Patrol Completes ACE Installation at N.Y. Ports

Customs and Border Protection on Tuesday completed installations of the Automated Commercial Environment in all land border ports in New York.

The system provides CBP with the ability to collect electronic manifests for trucks, the agency said in a statement.



CBP said it will begin implementation of a mandatory e-manifest policy on a port-by-port basis beginning in 2007.Transport Topics


EU May Require Trucks to Install Curved Mirrors

The European Union is considering a proposal that would require trucks to install curved mirrors to cover blindspots, Bloomberg reported last Thursday.

The proposed regulation would require about 2.5 million trucks currently operating without the mirrors to install the new safety equipment, Bloomberg said.

EU regulations already require trucks manufactured in 2007 or after to be equipped with the mirrors, Bloomberg reported.

The mirrors would cost about $190, Bloomberg said. Transport Topics


Police Begin Commercial Vehicle Inspections in Ontario’s Peel Region

Canada’s Peel Regional Police deployed on Tuesday 50 officers in support of a new safety inspection initiative that will target commercial vehicles.

Inspectors at the International Centre in Mississauga will randomly select trucks and conduct inspections covering brakes, tires, steering components, loads and driver qualifications, the Peel Regional Police said in a statement.

The Peel Region, located in the greater Toronto area, includes the cities of Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. Transport Topics
