Powers International Announces Phase II Trial of Satellite Container Monitoring System

Powers International Inc., a company that develops security systems for cargo containers, said Monday it began the second phase of trials for its SeaCure Satellite System, in cooperation with a number of European Union-based firms.

The project will test the SeaCure’s system to monitor cargo containers as they are shipped internationally from Bremerhaven, Germany and Port Everglades, Fla.



Powers International’s SeaCure system combines radio frequency identification and satellite technologies to allow shippers to monitor their containers during transport.

EU companies involved in the project include terminal operator Eurogate, Mediterranean Shipping Company, Astrium Space Transportation, Quehenberger Logistics Group and European Datacomm, a satellite communications company. Transport Topics


Share the Road Conducts Safety Demonstrations in Chicago

The American Trucking Associations’ Share the Road program will conduct Wednesday in Chicago a demonstration of safety measures to help prepare drivers for high volumes of Thanksgiving holiday traffic.

The demonstration will use simulated highway lanes to show how cars and trucks can get into crashes while professional truck drivers will provide ride-alongs for journalists.

The Share the Road program is designed to educate all drivers about sharing the roads safely with trucks. Transport Topics


Oregon State Police Initiate Truck Tire-Chain Checks at Mountain Passes

Oregon state police began on Tuesday tire-chain checks for trucks traveling through various mountain passes in the state, the Associated Press reported.

State police on Tuesday began stopping trucks making the trek through such passes as Willamette Pass on Highway 58, Siskiyou Summit on Interstate 5, Santiam Pass on Highway 20, Mt. Hood Pass on Highway 26, and Pendleton east through Ladd Canyon on Interstate 84, AP said.

Sgt. Alan Hageman told AP that many winter accidents involving trucks in the state result from failure to comply with Oregon’s tire-chain laws. Transport Topics
