PAR, Savi Team on Container Security

PAR Technology Corp. and Savi Technology said recently they have launched a joint project with the Departments of Transportation and Defense to develop cargo container security measures.

The system relies on establishing real-time communications between Savi’s electronic bolt seals and PAR’s wireless tracking systems.

When complete, the companies said that the system will be able to track the security status of intermodal cargo in the United States and Europe.

Since Sept. 11, 20021 government officials have been focused on protecting cargo of all kinds, including truck trailers, sea containers and intermodal containers. Transport Topics

Central Transport Gets Fast-Track Trade Approval

Central Transport has been granted initial approval to join the U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism through the Free and Secure Trade program.

The program will allow Central Transport to reduce waits while crossing the U.S.-Canada border. Since the attacks of Sept. 11, delays have been extensive at times as the U.S. beefed up its scrutiny of persons entering the country.

"We are proud to be a leader among freight service providers in the anti-terrorism initiative at the U.S.-Canadian border,” said Sandra Villeneuve, president of Custom Services International, a border services agent of Central Transport. “In addition to secure freight handling, we are also able to offer our customers quicker cross border service."

Central Transport is a division of CenTra Inc., which was ranked No. 24 on the 2002 Transport Topics 100 listing of the largest trucking companies in the United States and Canada. Transport Topics
