Schneider National to Open Intermodal Training Center

Schneider National said it will open a new training center for drivers in its intermodal unit as the carrier pursues expansion of truck/rail business by hiring 160 drivers.

Schneider said it plans to officially open the center on Jan. 10 in Chicago. It will offer specialized training for drivers who handle intermodal shipments.

The program will include training in both rail-yard activities and operations as well as highway driving. Classroom sessions also are included. The training for new drivers will cover a four-day period, for which the drivers will be paid $400.

Schneider’s statement said the Chicago location was picked because it was the busiest intermodal center for the freight that represents more than 40% of rail loads.
