ruckload carrier Schneider National’s logistics unit said Friday it signed a definitive agreement to acquire American Port Services, a provider of port transloading, warehousing and distribution services.

Schneider is not releasing how much it is paying for APS, Schneider spokesman Tom Nightingale told Transport Topics Friday.

APS’ President George Powers will continue to lead the Savannah, Ga., company once the acquisition is finalized, Schneider said.

APS will retain its name and will conduct business as a wholly owned subsidiary of Schneider Logistics. Schneider said it expected to close the deal within the next 60 days.

pon the deal’s completion, Schneider said it will have a significant presence in major U.S. ports and that become the first national full truckload provider to offer transloading services.

Transloading is transferring freight at an intermodal transfer point from one bulk container to others in order to move freight on more efficiently.

Linking the inland truckload, intermodal and third party capacity of Schneider National with American Port Services’ transloading and port dray operation will create a ‘port-to-door’ import logistics service," said Schneider National’s Chief Executive Officer Chris Lofgren.

Schneider National is the largest U.S. truckload company and is No. 7 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
