erman automaker Volkswagen, the largest shareholder in European truck makers MAN AG and Scania, named Stephan Schaller the new head of its commercial vehicles unit, Bloomberg reported Friday.

Schaller, a board member since February 2004, was previously responsible for brand product manufacturing at Volkswagen, Bloomberg said.

In a related story, Bloomberg cited reports from Handelsblatt that truck manufacturer MAN AG reiterated Jan. 31 as the final date for Scania investors to tender their shares under the German company’s $13.6 billion offer to buy out its Swedish rival.

Volkswagen has been pushing for a combination of MAN and Scania that would also include its own South American commercial vehicle manufacturing operations.
