Scania to Buy GM Component Plant in Sweden

Swedish truck maker Scania AB has reached agreement to buy a Swedish component plant owned by General Motors Corp., Bloomberg reported Wednesday.The plant, part of GM’s powertrain division, is in the same city as Scania’s headquarters, Soedertaelje, Sweden, Bloomberg said. Terms of the deal were not released.Scania plans to boost its commercial vehicle production by 54% to 100,000 trucks and buses a year by 2010 as demand grows in Eastern Europe and Russia, Bloomberg said.Scania was the subject of recent unsuccessful takeover attempt by German truck maker MAN AG.
