S.C. to Restrict Trucks on Stretch of I-95 Due to Construction

The South Carolina Department of Transportation will restrict oversize trucks on a section of Interstate 95 northbound for about two months beginning Sept. 12, due to bridge construction.

The state will conduct bridge redecking over Lake Marion on I-95 in Orangeburg County. Highway will be reduced to one lane from two, beginning at Mile Marker 98 with concrete barriers walls in place, SCDOT said in a statement.

Only legal vehicles of 8 feet, 6 inches or less in width will be able to travel through the area, and no oversize or overweight loads will be allowed through until an anticipated Nov. 16 reopening date.

The primary heavy-truck detour will be I-95 to I-26 to US-78 (Exit 205B) to US-52 to SC-375 to US-521 and back to I-95.

The detour route is for overwidth loads only, the department said. The state’s Oversize/Overweigh Permit office can review a suggested route of travel or amend current permits to bypass the area.

The permit office’s phone number is 803-737-6769, or toll free at 877-349-7190.
