Ryder Signs Agreements for Heavy-Duty Natural Gas Trucks

Ryder System said Tuesday it sees more demand for heavy-duty natural gas vehicles and that it has secured lease agreements for 87 heavy-duty natural gas trucks.

The agreements are from customers “looking to take advantage of the fuel cost savings and environmental benefits of alternative fuel powered vehicles,” Ryder said in a statement.

The company said 65 of the vehicles are part of its natural gas fleet in Southern California, made available through the Ryder/San Bernardino Associated Governments Natural Gas vehicle project.

Ryder said it has also expanded its alternative fuel program outside of California and has secured a lease agreement with Golden Eagle Distributors for 22 natural gas vehicles in Arizona.

Mohawk Industries, a supplier of flooring for both residential and commercial applications, has leased five liquefied natural gas tractors to support its delivery operations in Southern California. The vehicles, to be delivered in July, will be serviced out of Ryder’s maintenance facility in Fontana, Calif.

Ryder System is ranked No. 5 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
