Ryder System Inc. has launched a smartphone app that permits commercial fleet users to get a vehicle into a repair facility for either scheduled or unexpected maintenance and also compare real-time fuel prices.

The app, called RyderGyde, was introduced May 22 and allows drivers, fleet managers and owners to monitor and manage data about their fleets, including the ability to see an entire fleet and its maintenance status. A combination of a vehicle’s odometer reading and telematics data will make it known when a vehicle needs to go into the shop, the company said.

RyderGyde also allows customers to view contracted fuel rates in real time. All users will have access to see fuel rates from non-Ryder fuel retailers, but also will be able to find a Ryder location, including details about what services are available, hours of operation and the contact phone number. There also is a one-touch roadside assistance feature.

“Rather than doing it from a desktop, they’re able to do it from an app,” Dennis Cooke, Ryder president of fleet management systems, told Transport Topics. “You can schedule maintenance events within 60 seconds from your phone.”

Anyone can download and use the free app, but the more advanced features are password-protected for Ryder customers.

Ryder said it has about 800 company maintenance facilities nationwide. The app comes pre-loaded with information about customer vehicles, said Aimee Schmalzle, senior director of digital projects.

“Not only does it allow you to select a place that you want as a location, each vehicle already has their primary location selected,” she said. “We’re giving them the primary location where they normally go and get service at, and allowing them to choose if they want a different location.”

She added, “What we really wanted to do is make something that was easy for them to use and helpful to make their jobs easier on a daily basis.”

The app will be updated in the near future so a customer can rent a Ryder vehicle, browse the company’s used vehicle inventory and log fuel receipts, Ryder said.

RyderGyde is available on iOS and Android devices and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
