Ruan Transportation Founder Dies

John Ruan, founder of Ruan Transportation Management Systems, died Saturday, the company said. He was 96.

Ruan started Ruan Transportation Management Systems in 1932 with one truck, the company said in a statement Sunday.

The company now operates a tank carrier business and a logistics business, in addition to a bank and a real estate company.

Ruan was an influential figure in Iowa, and was responsible for the construction of many Des Moines buildings, including what was once the tallest building in the city, the company said.



Ruan died in Des Moines. His wife, Elizabeth, and sons, John III and Thomas, all survive him. John Ruan III now serves as chief executive officer of Ruan Transportation Management Systems.
