RSPA Hazmat Fees Draw Trucking's Ire at SLPMC

SAN ANTONIO — A Research and Special Programs Administration decision to continue hazmat registration fees at the same level in fiscal year 2003 came under fire during last week’s semi-annual meeting of American Trucking Associations’ Safety and Loss Prevention Management Council.

Earlier this month, RSPA said it was delaying a final decision on whether to temporarily reduce registration fees until the Bush administration and Congress agree on the fiscal 2003 Department of Transportation appropriations bill.

Council members maintain that the fees should be lowered because of a $16 million surplus in the Hazardous Materials Emergency Grants Program.
