Roadrunner Reports 4Q Profit

Roadrunner Transportation Systems reported a fourth-quarter profit compared with a loss a year ago, as less-than-truckload tonnage improved.

The carrier earned $3.9 million, or 12 cents per share, compared with a net loss of $1.3 million, or 7 cents, a year earlier.

Roadrunner, which went public last May, said that on a pro-forma basis the net income available to common stockholders for the quarter would have been $4 million, or 13 cents per share.

Revenue rose 30% to $165.8 million, and operating income was $6.7 million, up from $2.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2009.

LTL revenue rose 29% to $105.1, as tonnage improved 12.3%. Roadrunner also has truckload brokerage and transportation management units.
