Roadrunner Transportation Systems said it has acquired refrigerated truckload carrier Bruenger Trucking Co. in a transaction worth up to $13.6 million.

Roadrunner will pay $10.6 million, plus an additional $3 million under an earn-out provision, the company said late Tuesday.

Roadrunner said Wichita, Kan.-based Bruenger posted $3.5 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization and $23 million in revenue last year.

The acquisition “broadens our geographic coverage and expands our capacity network,” Roadrunner CEO Mark DiBlasi said in a statement. “Bruenger’s Midwest presence and East/West traffic will also enable us to more effectively cross-sell our truckload services.”

Roadrunner, which went public last year and has truckload and less-than-truckload services, is ranked No. 47 on the Transport Topics Logistics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
