Richard Coyle, president of West Sacramento-based Devine Intermodal, has been appointed president of the California Trucking Association.

Coyle’s rotating appointment recently was announced at the association’s annual meeting in Monterey, California.

Coyle, a 26-year veteran of the trucking industry with extensive experience in international ocean transport, holds an international relations degree from Stanford University.

“I hope to focus the spotlight on the myriad inefficiencies truckers face daily in the flow of international cargo through California,” Coyle said in a statement, reported by the Sacramento Bee. “Trucking is a vital economic component that is often taken for granted, and California’s growth has put tremendous pressure on all components of the supply chain.”

Devine Intermodal specializes in international freight between California ports and points inland. The company also offers truckload services throughout the western states and also has a 3PL logistics and warehousing operation in Reno, Nevada.

Coyle has lived and has been based in Sacramento working for Devine since 1988.

In a message to the membership, Coyle said that during his tenure in 2015 his theme will be “Gateway California.” “A huge part of my business at Devine Intermodal is focused on international trade, and since California’s ports serve as North America’s connection to the rest of the world, I want CTA to celebrate their importance,” Coyle wrote.
