Refrigeration Units Have Cool Innovations

MINNEAPOLIS — Expecting the growth of home delivery and urban business to translate to a greater demand for quieter, more efficient refrigerated units, Thermo King Corp. offers three new refrigeration units for use on straight trucks with boxes ranging from 16 to 28 feet.

Thermo King Corp. is offering the TS series refrigeration units that feature fewer moving parts and quieter operation.
The TS-200, 300 and 500 temperature-control systems have a new type of compressor. They also feature redesigned fronts, which allow the units to reach lower temperatures faster and have higher capacities, lower operating costs and quieter operation, according to the company based in Minneapolis.

The scroll compressor is exclusive to Thermo King. Looking a lot like a watch spring, the equipment has 83% fewer moving parts than the typical reciprocating compressor used on most refrigeration units. Fewer parts mean less downtime for maintenance upkeep, noted the company, a division of Ingersoll-Rand in Woodcliff Lake, N.J.

In addition, the new compressor provides greater cooling capacity than its counterparts, enabling the unit to lower the temperature faster while using less fuel as well.
