QuikQ will offer fuel-card services that will be accepted at Love’s Travel Stops, TravelCenters of America and Pilot Flying J truck stops, entering the fray against long-established card providers Comdata and Wex.

The fuel card will be called SmartQ with radio frequency identification, or RFID, a mobile app, and Q-checks, cash advances and payroll cards, all features that will put it on equal footing with the competition.

“QuikQ products fundamentally improve fuel transaction processing through innovative technology that increases transparency and reduces cost,” QuikQ CEO Dean Troester said. “We now have a portfolio of solutions that we believe is a more affordable and convenient approach to payment transactions than is available today, so much so that we expect to be the low-cost provider to merchants and fleets.”

Troester joined QuikQ earlier this year and was best known in the trucking industry as the chief financial officer at Crete Carrier Corp., where he spent 23 years. Crete ranks No. 35 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America.

At the same time, Wex signed a 10-year contract extension for its fleet card with Sheetz convenience stores, a 24-hour family owned chain with gasoline and diesel pumps at most locations.

Sheetz has more than 550 locations in six states: Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

“Wex is honored to continue its decades-long relationship with Sheetz, an award-winning convenience retailer,” said Jay Collins, Wex’s senior vice president of small fleets. “This contract extension will not only provide Sheetz with access to Wex’s world-class products and services, but its customers will benefit as well through fuel-savings programs, fraud protection and data insight.”
