LAS VEGAS — Qualcomm Inc., GE Trailer Fleet Services, and Sky-Bitz, three of the largest providers of trailer-tracking technology, each announced new customers and product expansions and enhancements here last week.In the largest single announcement, Qualcomm said trailer rental and leasing company Xtra Lease has started installing a customized version of the technology provider’s T2 untethered TrailerTracs system on its dry van trailers.Through what Norm Ellis, vice president for transportation and logistics of Qualcomm’s wireless business unit, called a “deep collaboration,” the companies have developed a new Web-based version of its untethered trailer-tracking system. The Web site focuses on trailers in use and idle and will “solve business problems, not just find trailers,” said Stephen Zaborowski, Xtra’s senior vice president. It will be offered to customers of both companies. For the full story, see the March 19 print edition of Transport Topics. Subscribe today.
