Push Is On to Get Stamp for Trucking's Centennial

In 1953, the Post Office Department issued this stamp in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the trucking industry.

Trucking industry activists are trying to convince the United States Postal Service to issue a stamp in 2003 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of trucking.

Dan Murray, who oversees technology research for the American Trucking Associations Foundation, said the stamp has made the Postal Service’s consideration list for 2003, but whether it gains approval depends on letters of support from citizens.

Former ATA Chairman John Wren is spearheading the industry’s campaign. “What’s motivating me is the opportunity to promote the truck and to foster the idea that trucks are a very real contributor to our country’s economic well-being. The men and women who drive trucks should be recognized for their contribution,” he said.
