PrePass Operator to Be Sold

Affiliated Computer Services Inc., a provider of information technology and business process outsourcing services, has agreed to acquire Lockheed Martin Corp.’s IMS unit, operator of the PrePass program, which allows pre-qualified, weight-compliant trucks to bypass weigh stations in 23 states.

ACS is a Dallas-based diversified Fortune 1000 company that integrates software and hardware from various sources for manufacturing, retail, government and other sectors. In commercial transportation, it provides computer processing services, network management, systems engineering, information analysis, help desk support, document digitization and supply chain management services for clients such as Roadway Express, United Parcel Service and Yellow Freight Systems.

“What is particularly of interest to us is that ACS has experience and strong interest in this kind of business and they have a record of being creative in outsourcing opportunities,” said Richard P. Landis, president of HELP Inc., the industry-government board that oversees PrePass. More than 187,000 trucks are enrolled in PrePass, which is operational at more than 170 sites.
