Postal Service Rate Increase Denied

A panel has denied the United States Postal Service’s request to increase the cost of first-class postage, the Associated Press reported.

The Postal Regulatory Commission refused the service’s request Thursday, which would have increased the price of a first-class stamp to 46 cents, from 44 cents.

USPS told the commission that the increase was necessary to fix long-term structural problems within the agency. Any increase above inflation must be approved by the commission.
