PierPass Launches Campaign to Boost Efficiency at So. Calif. Ports

PierPass Inc. announced an education campaign to remind trucking companies to have proper information before dispatching drivers to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif.

According to a survey by PierPass, the most common cause of problems at the two ports — which make up the largest U.S. port complex — are tied to incomplete information about import container deliveries or export booking problems.

“Trucking companies can avoid most trouble tickets and reduce turn times by checking with the terminals’ Web-based systems before coming to the terminal gates,” said PierPass President Bruce Wargo.

Checking with the online systems allows dispatchers to confirm the availability of a container before prematurely sending a truck to the terminal, Wargo said in a statement.

PierPass is distributing fact sheets to trucking companies and has released an online video about how to reduce the amount of time a truck spends at a terminal.
