PHMSA Taps 11 Universities for Pipeline Safety Research

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration on Sept. 30 gave 11 universities almost $2 million to examine pipeline safety.

The funding was made possible through the agency’s competitive academic agreement program, or CAAP.

“[CAAP] pays for critical research into safety technologies and mechanisms that could improve safety throughout the entire pipeline sector,” Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said. “These investments have contributed to new pipeline technologies that are being used across the country to improve pipeline safety.”

The schools were: Arizona State University, University of North Dakota, University of Alaska at Anchorage, University of Akron, North Dakota State University, Rutgers University, University of Tulsa, University of Colorado, Denver, West Virginia University, University of Missouri and the University of Colorado, Boulder.
