PennDOT Finds $50 Million in Savings Through Next Generation Initiative

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has identified more than $50 million in savings through its Next Generation initiative to modernize operations, Gov. Tom Corbett (R) said in a statement.

The initiative includes technology improvements and increased partnerships with other state agencies, according to the office of the governor.

As part of the initiative, the transportation agency moved its system for highway occupancy permits online, reducing review time from an average of 45 days to 10 days, the governor’s office said.

“PennDOT's Next Generation efforts are focusing on using every dollar effectively and efficiently in delivering transportation products. PennDOT is doing more with less while continuing to focus on the quality of their service,” Corbett said in a statement.
