P.A.M. Transportation Services reported third-quarter net income of $5 million, or 63 cents per share, from $2.4 million, or 28 cents, the prior year.

Revenue rose 5.1% to $107 million, the truckload carrier said. Revenue per truck, per week increased $145 to $3,365. Revenue per mile before fuel surcharge rose to $1.41 from $1.39.

“Strong freight demand and favorable fuel prices were significant contributing factors to our success in the quarter. The current level of demand allows us to be more selective in choosing lanes which offer both driver satisfaction and higher returns,” President Daniel Cushman said in a statement.

“As a result, we have been able to further reduce the number of empty miles driven as well as recognize an increase in the average revenue per truck each day,” he added.

P.A.M. Transportation Services, based in Tontitown, Arkansas, ranks No. 63 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
