pecialty truck maker Oshkosh Truck Corp. said Wednesday it will spend $5 million to expand its manufacturing and new product facilities near its Oshkosh, Wis., headquarters.

The company said it would break ground this month on a 45,000-square-foot expansion of its existing new product development facility. In the past 18 months it has added about 200 employees to developing new products, defense engineering and manufacturing assembly.

“These capital investments were spurred by growing demand primarily in Oshkosh’s defense business and are critical to staying on the leading edge of technology development for customers in all of our markets,” Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Bohn said.

The expansion is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of fiscal 2006, the company said. Oshkosh had $2.26 billion of sales in fiscal year 2004.
