OL International Acquires Project Cargo Specialist Orion Marine

Ocean freight forwarder and logistics firm OL International Holdings has purchased Orion Marine Corp., a 45-year-old company that specializes in moving project cargo, oversize loads and hazardous freight to remote locations worldwide.

Terms were not disclosed.

“Adding oversized logistics capabilities has been a strategic goal of ours for some time,” Alan Baer, president of OL International in Westbury, N.Y., said in a statement April 18.

Peter Schauer, who founded Orion Marine in 1971, will continue to run the Chicago-based business as executive vice president of Orion Marine USA. The company also operates under the ConFlo Lines brand.

“I built the business to succeed in locales around the world, such as Afghanistan, Mongolia, Siberia or Zimbabwe,” Schauer stated. “We are excited to have partnered with the OL International team, and we believe they are the perfect complement to our core service offering enabling us to utilize their leading technology and integrated suite of solutions.”

OL International operates in 140 countries and provides ocean, land and air transportation, customs brokerage and warehousing services.
