irginia officials are again advising truckers and motorists on southbound Interstate 95 near Washington — the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway — to find alternate routes through most of this weekend, due to ongoing large construction projects.

Traffic will be affected from the Route 1 interchange just east of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to the Springfield, Va., interchange on Saturday night into Sunday morning, with closures and detours planed, officials said.

Drivers traveling south should consider taking the Beltway’s Outer Loop in the direction of the American Legion Bridge or I-395 through Washington, officials said.

Long-distance drivers also may consider bypassing the Washington area altogether by accessing southbound Route 301 near Baltimore, which then ties back in with I-95 near Richmond, Va.

The construction is for new infrastructure on area highways related to the new Wilson Bridge that is being built.

There will be no closures on Sunday night, due to the large volume of traffic expected to attend the Washington Redskins football game in Landover, Md., officials said.
