Official Says U.S. to Deploy Electronic Border Clearing by 2006

OSTON — Domestic carriers crossing into Canada or Mexico need to prepare now for the full rollout of a federal electronic clearance system expected to be fully operational by next October, a trucking official said here.

“The days of driving up to a border with a paper manifest

re over,” said Margaret Irwin, who is American Trucking Associations’ director of customs, immigration and cross border operations.



Irwin made her comments following a meeting of ATA’s Cross Border Policy Committee Oct. 16, during the federation’s annual Management Conference & Exhibition.
