.S. orders for durable goods rose 3.4% in October, the Commerce Department said Tuesday.

Orders of goods made to last at least three years rose to $214.4 billion, Commerce said.

The rise was greater than analysts’ forecasts of a 1.5% increase, Bloomberg reported, and followed a revised 2% drop in September.

Excluding transportation orders, durables orders rose 0.3% to $149.3 billion, less than economists’ forecast of a 1% rise.

Trucking is a major beneficiary of durable goods manufacturing, hauling both components and finished goods.
