he New York Thruway Authority plans to begin public hearings Monday on a proposal to raise fees on the nation's longest toll road for the first time in 17 years, the Associated Press reported.

The move that does not sit well with the trucking industry, AP said, as toll on a truck with a 48-foot trailer from Albany to Buffalo would rise by more than 60%, to $53.75 from $32.70.

Under the plan, tolls on the 641-mile Thruway would rise by an average 35% for commercial vehicles and 25% for passenger vehicles, AP said. Increases would be smaller for vehicles that use the E-ZPass system.

After Monday’s hearing in Buffalo, the Thruway Authority will hold sessions in Syracuse on Tuesday and Albany on Wednesday, AP reported.
