Norfolk Southern Opens Alabama Intermodal Terminal

Norfolk Southern said it has opened a new intermodal facility in McCalla, Ala., to serve as part of an intermodal freight rail route between the Gulf Coast and the Northeast.

The $97.5 million Birmingham Regional Intermodal Facility is located on a 316-acre site and is designed to enable Norfolk Southern to launch freight moving service from Birmingham, Ala., to the Northeast and to Mexico.

The facility’s sister terminal in Greencastle, Pa., is scheduled to open in January.
