orfolk Southern Corp. and Canadian National Railway said Monday they would alter rail interchange patterns to streamline traffic at major U.S. gateways.

The major interchange points for traffic moving between the two lines are Rouses Point and Buffalo, N.Y.; Detroit; Toledo, Ohio; Chicago; Memphis, Tenn.; New Orleans and Mobile, Ala.

The two said the changes will be implemented over the next three months.

CN reached a similar agreement in December with Union Pacific Railroad to rout traffic around rail chokepoints in Chicago.
