he Environmental Protection Agency last Thursday awarded a $2.1 million diesel pollution grant to the state of New Jersey, $1 million of which will be used to electrify truck parking spaces.

By electrifying parking spaces at a truck stop on the New Jersey turnpike, EPA and state officials hope to reduce engine idling and scale back pollution, EPA said in a statement.

In addition, a separate portion of the grant’s funds will be used to fund the purchase of auxiliary power units or bunk heaters for truckers under a joint program between EPA, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Quality and a state trucking organization that represents short-haul drivers.
