New Unemployment Claims Jump 10,000 for Week

First-time U.S. jobless claims jumped 10,000 last week to 329,000, the Labor Department said Thursday.The level was higher than economists’ forecasts of an increase to 320,000 new claims, Bloomberg reported.The less-volatile four-week moving average fell to 317,500 from 316,250.The number of people continuing to collect benefits to 2.446 million for the previous week ended Dec. 23, from 2.522 million.
