Navistar International Corp. said its first International ProStar Plus Class 8 on-highway tractor equipped with a Cummins ISX15 engine and selective catalytic reduction technology rolled off the production line this week at its plant in Escobedo, Mexico.

Navistar and Cummins last month finalized an agreement under which Navistar will offer Cummins’ ISX15 engine in its International ProStar+, PayStar and 9900 models.

Troy Clarke, Navistar’s president and chief operating officer, said the rollout was “an important milestone as we bring our first SCR-based Class 8 trucks to the marketplace.”

The tractor, with Cummins Emission Solutions SCR-based aftertreatment system, will enter initial pilot production in March, with regular production scheduled to begin in April.

Its remaining lineup of heavy-duty truck models will transition to SCR-based technology in a phased launch throughout 2013, based on volume and customer demand, Navistar said.
