More than 120 FedEx Express flights out of Memphis International Airport in Tennessee were delayed early May 2 after an information technology system outage hit the company’s world hub.

FedEx issued a service alert warning of potential delays in deliveries because of the outage. The nature of the temporary outage wasn't specified.

FedEx spokeswoman Heather Wilson said, "A temporary IT system issue affected aircraft launch operations overnight. The issue has been resolved, but customers may experience delivery delays today. We apologize for any inconvenience."

The company's e-mailed service alert said, “FedEx Express experienced substantial disruptions at the Memphis hub last night due to a temporary IT system outage. We immediately implemented contingency plans to minimize the impact to our customers."

“We regret any inconvenience this has caused. Consistent with the provisions of the FedEx Service Guide, the money-back guarantee is not in effect for FedEx Express packages due for delivery on May 2, 2017,” the alert added.

Aviation tracker Flightstats.com showed about 20 FedEx flights out of Memphis arriving at destinations on time while the bulk arrived later than scheduled.

FedEx ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
