Mark Lowe Named Iowa’s Interim Transportation Chief

Mark Lowe became the interim director of the Iowa Department of Transportation on Nov. 29, replacing Paul Trombino, who announced his resignation on Nov. 10.

The 50-year-old Lowe had been director of Iowa DOT’s Motor Vehicle Division since April 2009. He was previously the department’s general counsel.

In announcing Lowe’s promotion, Gov. Terry Branstad said he didn’t have a timeline for naming a permanent director.

Trombino, who helped push a 10-cents-per-gallon fuel tax increase — Iowa’s first such hike since 1989 — through the Legislature last year, had been director for five years. His resignation was unexpected.
