Canadian carrier Manitoulin Transport has purchased the less-than-truckload division of Hi-Way 13 of Camrose, Alberta, continuing its push to expand its coverage in western Canada.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

As part of the transaction, Manitoulin has acquired all of the LTL division’s employees and assets.

Manitoulin President Don Goodwill described Hi-Way 13 as “a major player in a geographic pocket of Alberta that we want to have a stronger presence in.”

He also praised the company’s customer service and safety record.

The purchase is Manitoulin's second Alberta-based LTL acquisition in four months. In September, the company announced it acquired the LTL and van freight business of Edmonton-based Westcan Freight Systems.

Manitoulin, based in Mississauga, Ontario, offers expedited LTL and truckload services, heavy haul, international freight forwarding, customs brokerage, logistics and warehousing.
