Mack Urges EPA to Allow SCR Engines

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Diesel engine manufacturers need the Environmental Protection Agency to decide this year whether it will allow them to use selective catalytic reduction technology to meet strict 2007 emissions standards, Mack Trucks Inc. executives said last week.

Speaking at a Transport Topics Publishing Group editorial forum, Mack President and CEO Paul Vikner said selective catalytic reduction, or SCR, is the most promising approach to complying with regulations that demand sharply lower levels of soot and smog-producing emissions.

“Our hope right now is that common sense will prevail at EPA,” Vikner said, and that SCR will be approved.
